Midweek Tweak

I'm a fan of toe socks - those odd-looking, glove-like socks that separate your metatarsals.  I'm hoping they'll help me avoid some toe troubles inherent to feet like mine.  Combat boots did me no favors either.  On the positive side, I don't have to remove and replace socks for yoga when I'm sporting these unique wardrobe items; but that's not the actual point of this Midweek Tweak.

Forward Folds

  • Yes, the simple act begins standing barefoot (or, in my case, clad in toe socks), hips stacked over ankles, shoulders over hips, ears back over shoulders.
  • Raising the arms as you inhale, elevate your chin and chest as you expand upward and outward during the inhale, pulling the fresh air into your body.
  • Then, as if you were an accordion or bellows, releasing the air as you fold forward, bending at the hips first.
  • After your hips have folded as far as they will, then allow the upper torso to fold from the lower part of your spine toward your neck as you continue to exhale and reach for your toes.
  • You can stay in that position a few breaths, lengthening with each exhale, and then rise slowly from the base of your spine upward to the top of your crown as you fill your body with breath again.

Midweek Tweak
Try and include at least one forward fold each day this week and see how it impacts your outlook.

Stay tuned.  Stay focused.  Stay well.
